A man who killed three people and injured several others in a shooting rampage near Munich has been found dead.

His shooting spree began this morning at the premises of a company that had recently fired him, where he killed two former co-workers.

The gunman entered a home furnishings company in the town of Eching. He shot his former boss and a foreman with a "large calibre gun", a police spokesman said. One man died on the spot, the other shortly afterwards.

He then drove to his old school where he walked in and fired wildly, killing the headteacher and injuring several other people.

The attacker, believed to be about 20, also set off two home-made pipe bombs at the school.

Police surrounding the school complex at Freising say the suspected assailant was found dead. It is unclear where the body was discovered.

Police said about 400 students were safely evacuated, some of whom had been holed up in panic in classrooms.

For several hours, police had been unsure whether the man - wearing an army camouflage suit - was still inside or had fled on foot.
