Gardaí have named the victim of yesterday's fatal stabbing in Dublin as 21-year-old Martin McLoughlin from Cherrywood Park in Clondalkin.

Mr McLoughlin died following an incident at Jury's Hotel, close to Croke Park.

He was discovered with a chest wound at around 4am on New Year's Day.

He was rushed to the intensive care unit of Dublin's Mater Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery yesterday.

Gardaí in Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station launched a murder investigation after he died at around 7am this morning.

Meanwhile, Chief Supt Mick Feehan who is leading the investigation, has appealed to anyone who knows anything about the incident to come forward.

The Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, is currently carrying out a post mortem on the victim's body.
