Gardai moved to defuse a potentially violent confrontation between groups of feuding Travellers in the public enclosure at the Galway Races at Ballybrit last evening. Between 30 and 40 gardai were involved in keeping about 100 members of the families apart. Supt Tony Finnerty said that with this exception, no incident had been reported to the Garda during the first two days of the meeting.
