A man charged with a post office robbery has claimed to a jury that gardai fabricated his alleged statement of admission. Mr Derek Kinch told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court he was not involved in the armed robbery of New Birmingham Post Office, Glengoole, Thurles, Co Tipperary, on February 24th 1995.

Mr Kinch (26), with an address at Rossa Street, Thurles, has pleaded not guilty to stealing £1,785 from Ms Marie Delaney.

Mr Kinch also denied admitting that he stole three guns from the home of Mr Patrick Maher, Craige, Ballyclerihan.

The trial continues before Judge Dominic Lynch.
