IASI - Four people have died from cold in northern Romania in the last few days, including a two-month-old baby whose parents had nothing to provide heat at home, police said yesterday.

The baby, Dumitrita, died in a poor district of the town of Iasi. The three other people who died, all in the same region, had fallen asleep outside after getting drunk, a police spokesman said. A cold snap has seen temperatures fall to minus 15 degrees centigrade across Romania, causing heating problems for public buildings.
