Four men were charged tonight by police who foiled a suspected gang raid on a security van in west Belfast.

They have been accused of robbery and handling stolen goods after a specialist surveillance team pounced on a gang who had allegedly targeted the takings from an off licence.

The suspects, all aged in their 20s, will appear before magistrates in the city tomorrow. Two of them also face motoring offences.

The arrests were made yesterday after a car smashed into other vehicles and injured two pedestrians.
