Soccer:Diego Forlan insists he is happy at Atletico Madrid and will not be tempted by a move to Tottenham next season.

Forlan, a stand-out player for Uruguay at the World Cup this summer, has been on the radar of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

But the 31-year-old former Manchester United man is adamant he will not make a return to the Premier League.

"I am very happy in Madrid and I have three years left on my contract with Atletico," said Forlan.

"I will not go. Now I want to have another season as good or better than the one just completed."

Redknapp was realistic in his pursuit of the Uruguay striker.

“He is a player I would like but he may be out of our range,” said Redknapp. “He has had an outstanding World Cup, there aren’t too many players who did better than Forlan at the World Cup, he is a top player.”

Redknapp is also interested in bringing Joe Cole to White Hart Lane this summer.

Cole is a free agent after his contract with Chelsea expired and Redknapp is eager to be reunited with a player he worked with previously at West Ham.

He added: “I signed Joe as an 11-year-old at West Ham. I think he is an outstanding player, a great professional and a top, top player.

“I would love to have Joe at Tottenham but there are lots of clubs in for him.

“We will have to wait and see, we are not close to doing anything with Joe really.”

Spurs striker Jermain Defoe is also keen to work with Cole again, having been impressed by the 28-year-old as the pair trained together with England at the World Cup.

Defoe said: “When we were in South Africa (you could see) every day his passion and his drive to want to improve.

“In training he was sharp and he was strong, he just loves football - that’s Joe. So if we could get someone like that at the club it would be good for everyone.”

Spurs have been linked with several players following their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last season which means they will enter the qualifying rounds for the Champions League.

As for improving the squad prior to their European challenge, Redknapp added: “If we can find one or two that can make a difference...it’s difficult though.

“We have a good squad so it’s not easy to find players who are better. We are looking and we may find one or two before the season starts.”
