Former International footballer Niall Quinn today launched a new section of the Drug Treatment Centre Board (DTCB) website which is being funded by Dublin Bus.
Minister of State Noel Ahern also attended the launch of the Frequently Asked Questions section of addictionireland.ie, a website that provides information on drug use and its associated risks.
Dublin Bus provided €5,000 to fund the initiative as part of the company's Community Support Programme and Quinn, who is patron of the programme, was on hand to push the button for the FAQ section to go live.
The former Arsenal and Manchester City striker said: "Organisations like The Drug Treatment Centre Board provide an essential service that is crucial in improving the lives of those in the local community.
"The website will ensure information is available to all.
"I am privileged to be involved in a programme which recognises their invaluable work," he added.
Denis McCarthy, chairman of the DTCB said: "Following on from the success of National Educational Seminar Programme the further enhancement of our website is yet another element of our organisation's national remit and commitment to delivering comprehensive education in the area of substance misuse."
Mr Ahern, Minister of State with responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy, congratulated the DTCB and Dublin Bus on the initiative and said the website had "enormous value" both locally and nationally.
Sheila Heffernan, general manager of DTCB said the provision of education and support was "fundamental" to successfully treating and caring for those affected by substance abuse.
The DTCB is one of 140 Dublin charities and non-profit groups which were awarded grants last year by Dublin Bus under its community support programme.
