Waterford, Meath, Cork, Louth and Clare were the five counties hardest hit by job losses in the past 12 months, according to the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed.
The INOU said this Christmas would see 10,000 more people on the live register than at the same time last year, with the south-west accounting for the largest annual increase - 15 per cent.
