At least six fire tenders and several other vehicles were called to deal with a "small fire" in the building housing the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute in Dublin this afternoon.

Pearse Street was closed to traffic as firefighters battled the blaze.

Gardai diverted traffic away from the area onto Sandwith Street Lower.

The Garda press office referred to the incident as a “small fire” which was under control by 2.30pm this afternoon and said there was “nothing suspicious” about the incident.
