The theme of the conference, which is the party's first since its successes in the local and European elections and the Meath by-election, is "New Team, New Ideas".

The choice of location for the conference is seen as a strategic decision to raise the profile of candidates within Cork city and county, as well as neighbouring counties of Kerry and Limerick.
