The former editor-in-chief of US magazine the National Enquirerhas been appointed to take charge of the Irish Daily Mailand the Irish Mail on Sunday.

Paul Field replaces Ted Verity as editor-in-chief of Associated Newspapers' Irish titles.

Verity is returning to the UK after four years running the papers, and will become an executive editor of the Mail on Sunday, responsible for the paper's online operations as well as special projects.

Verity was editor-in-chief of Ireland on Sundayand oversaw its relaunch as the Irish Mail on Sundayin September 2006. He also supervised the Irish Daily Maillaunch in February 2006.

Mr Field was a former news editor at the Mail on Sundayand a former associate editor (news) at the Sun. He was editor of the National Enquirerin 2005 and 2006, after he led a team of 20 UK journalists who were exported to the relaunch the flagging title.
