Houses flooded in Co Offaly as Shannon levels rise

Offaly County Council says water level at Shannonbridge up 40mm in 24 hours

Water levels have risen on the River Shannon in Co Offaly where two houses are flooded.

Offaly County Council said the water level at Shannonbridge is up 40mm in the past 24 hours.

In nearby Banagher, where sandbags have been deployed in the Portavolla estate the water has risen by 15mm.

Additional sandbags have been delivered to the Portovolla estate. In Shannonbridge sandbags have been made available and pumps were deployed to deal with floodwater on Main Street.

Sandbags are being used as a precautionary measure for properties in Shannon Harbour village where two houses were flooded. The council has also closed a number of local roads.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann has issued yellow and orange rainfall warnings and residents in Co Clare and Co Limerick are on alert for further flooding.
