Association of Teachers of English seminars: All teachers are welcome to attend a seminar on Saturday, November 29th at Athlone Education Centre, where John Fahy will talk about 'Drama Methodologies in the Classroom' (2 p.m. to 3 p.m.). and Kate O'Carroll about 'The Language of Argument' (3.15 p.m. to 4.15 p.m.).

Griffith College Open Day

Dyslexia study

The Dyslexia Research Group in the department of psychology, Trinity College Dublin, has launched a one-year study into dyslexia and its treatment. It is contacting families with children aged between three and six in which older brothers, sisters or parents suffer from dyslexia or reading and spelling problems. It would like to recruit 400 boys between the ages of three and six. Girls and older boys may be able to participate in the near future.

The group aims to evaluate three potential treatments for dyslexia, designed for pre-school and early-school children. Participation in the study may involve a regular commitment of about 10 minutes a day for a year.

Next Sunday, November 23rd, in the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Westland Row, Dublin 2, at 2 p.m., there will be a recital by Andrew Larkin, winner of the EPTA/Heneghan Cup in the Feis Ceoil 2003. This will be followed by 'The Right Start: Selecting Good Teaching Material for Beginners', a talk by Dr David Mooney, head of keyboard studies at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.
