ON GLEE AND MISFITS

Liefe Hollwey: "With The X Factorfinished and the cold weather keeping us indoors, we're turning our attention to Glee, a new show on E4 and TV3. I've watched the whole season online already."

Lorcán Miller: " Gleehas a good plot and a good story around it, and the singing is really good too."

Sadhbh Hynes: " Misfitsis another great show: it's about six characters in England doing community service. There's a storm and they get struck by lightning and get superpowers."

ON DART FARES

LM: “We’re expected to pay the full adult fare when we’re 16, but we can’t vote or drink at the same age. It seems a little bit like double standards here. It’s the same on the buses as well.”

ON SNOW AND ICE

LH: “I don’t think you can really blame anybody for the ice and snow at the beginning of the year. It’s possibly something we’ll have to get used to in the wintertime. If there had been more supplies of salt and grit people might have complained that they were wasting money.”

ON GAISCE

Aly Coyne: “Gaisce, the President’s Award, gives students an opportunity to focus on something positive. We have to complete three categories: community involvement, personal skill, and physical recreation. I’m teaching myself guitar and doing ballet for the recreation. I’m also volunteering at the Sue Ryder Foundation, a charity shop for the elderly. Gaisce is a great character builder and a chance to give something back. This year, I’m going for the bronze award and I hope to go for gold next year.”

ON THE UGANDA PROJECT

SH: “Every year, the TYs raise money for a hospital, orphanage and school in Uganda. Then, a select group of students goes over to visit. We had a winter fair just before Christmas and raised €18,000, which we were very happy with.”
