Academic Notes

A half-day symposium on research in the new millennium will be held in TCD on May 19th. Speakers will include Professor David Dam Rosch of Columbia University in New York, who will challenge the way humanities research is conducted, and Professor Paul Langford, head of the Arts and Humanities Research Council in Britain.

NUI Galway is to hold its first postgraduate information session at the student centre today. Some 55 stands representing the college's academic departments will provide information on the range of postgraduate programmes on offer. Faculty administrators will be on hand to give advice to anyone interested in acquiring a postgraduate qualification by research. Meanwhile, information on taught programmes will be disseminated by course directors and postgraduate students.

Each of the faculties will provide information sheets on the grants and scholarships. The session includes a CV clinic: if you bring a CV, college careers officers and a careers consultant will look it over and suggest improvements.

CIT (formerly Cork RTC) is anxious to contact more than 30,000 graduates worldwide. The CIT Graduates Association was launched last year and through its website has already made contact with former students in Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, Britain and the US. Class reunions are promised and graduates of the Crawford College of Art and Design and the Cork School of Music (Both of which have been incorporated into CIT) are also encouraged to get in touch.
