Ireland's Ken Doherty crashed out of the Welsh Open in Cardiff tonight, losing 5-1 to Hong Kong's Marco Fu.

Ireland's Ken Doherty crashed out of the Welsh Open in Cardiff tonight, losing 5-1 to Hong Kong's Marco Fu.

The Dubliner started well by claiming the opening frame but then lost the next five on the trot.

Fu advances to a quarter-final date with Stephen Hendry who beat Jimmy White earlier in the day.

World number one Mark Williams, unhappy with table conditions earlier in the week, also lost.  He was beaten 5-3 by fellow Welshman Dominic Dale.

Paul Hunter whitewashed Anthony Hamilton 5-0.
