Department sells Ballincollig barracks to developer

The Department of Defence has sold its Murphy Army Barracks in Ballincollig, County Cork, to a developer for €41m.

The 90-acre site was sold to Cork-based O'Flynn Construction Construction Ltd.

O'Flynn Construction, with offices at Model Farm Road, had refused to finalise the deal with the Department until a dispute over the lease was resolved.

Planning permission was granted for a €400 million development at the barracks earlier this year.

The development, which is the largest planning permission granted by Cork County council, and one of the largest commercial developments approved outside of Dublin, will include 900 homes and a new centre for the town, on the western outskirts of Cork city.
