An announcement is due from Irish Rail at midday today on whether a third special train will run from Plunkett Station in Waterford to Connolly Station in Dublin on Sunday ahead of the All-Ireland Hurling Semi-Final between Waterford and Clare at Croke Park.

It's understood the decision will be dictated by the availability of rolling stock and drivers.

Interest in the match is huge with Waterford having ended a trophy drought on June 30th when they won the Munster Championship for the first time since 1963.

Several hundred people queued at the train station in the city yesterday morning in the hope of buying pre-paid tickets for two special trains scheduled to leave for Connolly Station at 8.30 a.m. and 10.05 a.m. on Sunday.

The queue quickly descended into chaos with Irish Rail and the local radio station receiving numerous complaints of queue jumping as the two special trains sold out in less than an hour.

One irate fan who had queued for two hours said she had been left without a ticket while another man who arrived just as tickets went on sale left the station with his travel arrangements made.

An Irish Rail spokesperson said the demand was unprecedented, "this is like nothing we have ever seen before."
