The Special Criminal Court yesterday fixed November 24th as the date for trial of a Co Kildare man charged in connection with the discovery of a massive car bomb in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, last April.

Mr Laurence Keane (41), of Cloney, Athy, is charged with possession of 980lb of improvised explosive mixture, a time and power unit, an electric detonator, two booster tubes and improvised detonating cord with intent to endanger life or to enable another person to do so in the State or elsewhere at Dun Laoghaire port on April 2nd last.

At an earlier bail application the court was told Mr Keane was caught driving a car containing the explosives and was about to board the HSS ferry at the time of his arrest. Mr Keane was remanded in custody for trial on November 24th.
