Gardaí have arrested two men and recovered cash after a robbery at the home of a couple in their 80s in Dublin.

A Garda spokesman said the incident occurred at 2pm on Wednesday, when the couple had returned to their home in the Beaumont area following a visit to their local bank.

“They had withdrawn money which was intended to pay for a family holiday. As they entered their home, a man approached from their driveway.

“This man allegedly assaulted the couple and then fled the scene with the cash,” the spokesman said.

“The couple were not seriously injured, but were badly-bruised and traumatised.”

Arrests

The spokesman said that, following extensive investigations, gardaí stopped a car on the Swords Road at 12.40pm on Thursday and the two occupants, a man in his 30s and a man in his 40s, were arrested in relation to the incident.

They are being detained at Clontarf Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí recovered a quantity of cash in a follow-up search.
