Seven people were arrested following a protest at a circus in Tallaght, Dublin on Wednesday.

A number of animal rights protestors were involved in an incident with Circus Belly Wien employees.

A Garda spokesman said officers from Tallaght were at the scene of a public order incident on the Greenhills Road.

Gardaí were called to the scene shortly after 2.30pm

A total of seven people were arrested for public order offences and a number of others were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Investigations are ongoing, the spokesman said.

Dublin South-West TD Paul Murphy condemned the incident and called for a full Garda investigation.

The National Animal Rights Association will hold another protest on Thursday at 6.30pm .
