Rights for migrant workers
The Joint Committee of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and the Irish Human Rights Commission have launched a consultation on the protection of the human rights of migrant workers.
The joint committee is consulting organisations with experience of these issues on what needs to be done to convince both governments to ratify the Migrant Workers’ Convention.
The consultation paper is available from both commissions.
The closing date for the receipt of responses to the consultation paper is February 26th, 2010.
Mark Tushnet in Trinity
Mark Tushnet, leading scholar of constitutional law and William Nelson Cromwell Professor of Harvard Law School, will give a lecture on The Dialogic Process of Constitutional Review at this year’s annual Distinguished Speaker lecture of the Trinity College Law Review.
It will take place on Tuesday, December 15th, at 7pm in the Robert Emmet Theatre.
Family lawyers’ elections
Last month at its agm the Family Lawyers’ Association elected the following to its executive committee: Marion Campbell solicitor, Barbara Casey solicitor, Cormac Corrigan SC, Alan Finnerty solicitor, Kyle Leyden BL, Bronagh OHanlon SC and Justin Spain solicitor.
At the first meeting of the new executive committee Cormac Corrigan was re-elected as chairman, Alan Finnerty as secretary and Justin Spain as treasurer. Bronagh O’Hanlon continues as vice-chairwoman.
Conference on criminal law
CLT Ireland will host The Criminal Justice (Amendment) Act Conference: Implications for Practitioners on Wednesday, December 16th, in the Fitzwilliam Hotel, Dublin 2.
The conference will focus on recent and pending developments in the area.
