The Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution is holding a breakfast briefing on tomorrow in the Ormond Building, Dublin 7, where its chief executive, Dr Karl Mackie, will deliver a lecture entitled, “No, no, no” on how to get past a refusal to actively negotiate.

A lunchtime seminar "Right brain, left brain" will be held for mediators at William Fry, delivered by the centre's deputy chief Eileen Carroll, on how our physiology affects our ability to do a deal in a mediation context. Law journal hosts panel discussion

The Hibernian Law Journalis hosting a commercial law panel discussion at the Law Society on Wednesday, November 2nd, at 7pm. The discussion will be chaired by Noreen Howard of Matheson Ormsby Prentice Solicitors, who is sponsoring the event. Speakers include Mr Justice Peter Kelly and Ms Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan. All are welcome to attend.

Booklet explores alternative to court

A new booklet has been launched by the Northern Ireland Ombudsman, the Law Centre (NI) and the School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast.

Alternatives to Court by Dr Jack Anderson of the Law School at Queen’s, attempts to show members of the public that there other ways of dealing with many types of dispute, how these alternatives to court might work and when it is appropriate to use them.

The booklet is available online on NI Direct; the NI Ombudsman’s website; the Law School’s webpage; or by contacting the Law Centre (NI) directly on 048 90 24440.

Seminar on forensics in criminal trials

Solicitors Sheehan Partners and forensic scientists Keith Borer consultants are holding a seminar on forensic science in criminal trials on Thursday from 5.30 to 7.30pm in the Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street, Dublin.

The speakers, Ann Kiernan and Simon Bunter from Keith Boran, will discuss firearms evidence and fingerprint evidence, respectively, and the seminar will be chaired by Peter Mullan of Sheehan Partners.
