Gardai arrested 42 people and seized €20,000 worth of drugs and five vehicles in Co Kilkenny on Wednesday.

Operation Thor-Project Storm included Garda checkpoints and community gardai informing members of the public to increase awareness of protection of personal property and possessions.

Gardai set up 77 checkpoints as part of the operation while 21 premises and 21 properties were searched.

Twenty-seven arrests were for theft, assault, burglary and drugs offences with 15 arrests on warrant. Seventeen people were held at Kilkenny and Carlow Garda stations while a further ten have been charged to appear before the courts in the coming weeks.

“Operation Storm also concentrates on interaction with local clubs and organisations,” a statement from the Garda said.

“Crime prevention stands were set up over the course of the Operation giving information leaflets throughout the community,” it said.
