Dublin gym damaged after car driven into doors and set on fire

24-hour Coolock Flyefit gym evacuated at 2am after car driven through entrance

A gym in Coolock, Dublin was badly damaged in the early hours of Monday morning after a car was driven through the entrance and set on fire.

Dublin Fire Brigade received a call at about 2.20am on Monday morning that a fire had broken out in the 24-hour Flyefit gym in the Coolock Retail Park on the Malahide Road.

Four fire brigade units attended the scene where they discovered a burning car inside the gym’s main entrance.

The fire was brought under control and fire brigade units left the scene at 3.45am.

It is understood a number of people were safely evacuated from the gym when the car was set on fire and there were no reports of injuries.

No arrests have been made so far.

The scene was closed off on Monday pending a Garda technical examination. The burnt-out car remained at the scene on Monday morning.

Flyefit notified members on its Facebook page that Flye Coolock would be “closed temporarily due to fire damage”.

It advised Coolock members to use any of the other Flye gyms while assessments and repairs are carried out.

“We will pause all Coolock memberships in the interim while repairs are being carried out so that your membership time is preserved,” wrote the post.
