More than 20 appear in court on drug charges

Arrests were part of covert ‘Operation Tempest’ by gardaí in Dublin

Twenty-three people were charged in court today in relation to the sale and supply of drugs.

The arrests were part of the gardaí’s six-month covert ‘Operation Tempest’, which was set-up to find people involved in the sale and supply of heroin, cocaine and other controlled drugs.

Twenty-one men and two women were before the court on more than 80 charges. The drugs they were accused of selling or supplying ranged from prescription drugs like diazepam to illegal drugs such as cannabis and heroin. They were charged in relation to incidents between January and June this year.

Most of the places they were accused of dealing drugs were in central Dublin, Dublin 7 and Dublin 1, such as North Circular Road , Sheriff Street Lower, Amiens Street, Killarney Street, Sean MacDermott Street, Oxmanstown Road, Smithfield. Seville Place, Sherrard Street and Gardiner Street Flats

Most of the accused were remanded on bail until October 2nd, and one woman was remanded in on bail until October 10th. A bench warrant was issued for one man accused of selling or supplying diazepam.
