The High Court will deliver judgment next week on a challenge by a man serving a 10-year sentence for firearms offences to the refusal of the Minister for Justice to allow him be assessed as to whether he is a qualifying prisoner for early release under the terms of the Belfast Agreement.

Henry Doherty (50), who is held at Portlaoise Prison, is a former member of the Irish National Liberation Army but claims he has been non-aligned to any unlawful organisation for some time, having dissociated from the INLA around 1985.

The hearing concluded before Mr Justice McKechnie yesterday. The judge said he would reserve his decision to November 17th.
