Paris - A court yesterday ordered a halt to sales of a book alleging that two former cabinet ministers ordered the killing of a member of parliament almost four years ago.

The court, responding to an appeal by a former defence minister, Mr Francois Leotard, for censorship of the book about the death of Ms Yann Piat in February 1994, ordered a suspension of distribution until October 24th.

The book alleges that Mr Leotard and a former urban affairs minister, Mr Jean-Claude Gaudin, ordered Ms Piat's killing by a hit squad after she uncovered plans to sell plots of army land to the Mafia.
