A Co Cork couple, Cyril Reaney and his wife Ita O’Regan, have been awarded €295,887 compensation for termination of their parcels and letters delivery franchise.

The couple and their company, Travalon Ltd, of Main Street, Whitegate, Middleton, Co Cork, had sued Interlink Ireland Ltd, which had terminated the franchise.

Barrister Ted Harding, who appeared with Colm Ó hOisin for the plaintiffs, told Mr Justice Paul Gilligan that a number of issues would arise from his reserved judgment. The matter was adjourned until October 2nd.

Pat Hanratty, for Interlink, had told the court that a lodgment of €362,000 had been made in the case prior to hearing.

Judge Gilligan said that Interlink was a subsidiary of La Poste, currently trading as DPD Ireland, which operates a network of courier franchises throughout Ireland.

Judge Gilligan said that the principal issue was to determine the effect of a particular clause in the franchise agreement and decide appropriate compensation as well as outstanding commission.
