Shares in Corus have fallen over 4 per cent in early trade after explosions ripped through a blast furnace at its south Wales steel plant.

The blasts caused a large fire, killing one person and injuring 13.

The fire, which broke out yesterday at the Port Talbot plant, has been put out and the area declared safe, police said last night.

By 8.19 a.m., Corus shares had regained some ground and were down 1.79 per cent at 53-1/2 pence, off a low of 49p, in a weaker market, with the FTSE 100 Index down 0.8 per cent.
