A Cork Sinn Fein councillor who has been warned by gardai he is on a Loyalist death list, has said he still plans to travel to Belfast this weekend for ceremonies to honour those who died on hunger strike.

Mr Kieran McCarthy, a father of four, was contacted by gardai earlier this week and told they had received information from the RUC to the effect his name was on a Loyalist death list.

Yesterday Mr McCarthy said he was taking it very seriously.
