The views of the faithful
SR MARIA LEE
“I have been working in Rome and came home for the congress. My mother was in Dublin for the 1932 congress and talked about it a lot, so I suppose I am following in her shoes. It is a great day.”
CHRIS GARRETT
“I’m here to learn more about my faith and the Catholic Church in Ireland. I came from Heuston, Texas, to educate myself. I know all the negative things, but there is great optimism too, there is evangelical potential.”
SR MARY JOE RING
“I’ve travelled up from Cork. I’m with the Sisters of Our Lady of the Apostles. I came to celebrate the communion of the church with other members of the church and with Christ.”
IMELDA BURNS
“It means quite a lot, the coming together of the Catholic community. I also want to understand the Eucharist a bit better. I’m from Crumlin in Co Antrim and I’m interested in this from an ecumenical point of view.”
JOHN CLENAGHAN
“I was at the 1932 congress, I was nine years old. We went 100 miles by bus from Glenavy [Co Antrim] to get to it. We left at 6am and came back at midnight. We had relations in Dublin and I remember going along with the crowd. I’m glad to be here today.”
SR TERESA ANIMA KUSI
“I am from Ghana and am here studying in Ireland. I feel really privileged to witness this for the 50th international Eucharistic Congress and to share that with members of the church in Ireland.”
