A man who was arrested by gardaí for selling a stolen car after a video of the transaction was shown on RTÉ's Crime Callprogramme has been ordered to carry out 240 hours of community service.

Stephen O’Reilly (25) was recorded on a digital camera selling a Citroen Xsara to Jurij Dubrouskij after he claimed to be the vehicle’s legitimate owner.

Stills from this video recording, taken by Mr Dubrouskij’s girlfriend, were later shown on Crime Call leading to O’Reilly being identified.

O’Reilly, Annagh Court, Waterville, Blanchardstown, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to deception on February 25th, 2006.

The charge detailed that O’Reilly had induced Mr Dubrouskij to purchase the Citroen Xsara by deceiving him as to his identity. His previous convictions included road traffic offences.

Judge Katherine Delahunt imposed a two-year prison sentence on O’Reilly but ordered that he carry out the community service in lieu of that.
