CANBERRA - Australia's highest court yesterday allowed the Catholic Church to intervene in what lawyers said is the country's first test case on abortion. A woman is claiming damages from a medical centre that failed to diagnose her pregnancy in time for an abortion.

The church is trying to prevent the court from ruling that abortion is legal.
