Several swims and runs are taking place on Christmas Day. At the Forty Foot in Sandycove, Co Dublin, the annual swim starts at noon. At 11 a.m., an estimated 300 are expected on the beach at Myrtleville, Crosshaven, Co Cork, where money raised will go to Enable Ireland. Also at 11 a.m., at Lisfannon beach, Co Donegal, sponsored swimmers will raise money for various charities. There will be swimming at the open-air pool in Corbally, Limerick, at 11 a.m. At noon, sponsored swims will take place at Blackrock in Salthill, Galway, and in Lahinch.
Now in their 20th year, the one-mile runs, to raise funds for GOAL, begin at 10 a.m. at the UCD track at Belfield. A mile race starts every 15 minutes until 1 p.m. The event is held at other tracks, including Santry in Dublin, NUI Galway and Cork Institute of Technology.
