The DPP has laid manslaughter charges in relation to the death of a homeless man from head injuries last year, writes Georgina O'Halloran.

Francis McGrinder (41), Crosscare Hostel, Dublin, was found injured at the Dublin city centre hostel on May 12th, 2008.

He was rushed to St James’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mr McGrinder, originally from Northern Ireland, died of a haemorrhage following head trauma.

Insp Declan Downey of Killmainham Garda station told an inquest into Mr McGrinder’s death at Dublin City Coroner’s Court yesterday that there was a direction from the DPP and a person was “currently charged with manslaughter”.

Coroner Dr Brian Farrell adjourned the inquest until the criminal trial has been completed.
