The case against a Kerry senior GAA footballer and All-Ireland medal winner charged with assault and public order offences was adjourned by consent at Killarney District Court yesterday.

Aidan O'Mahony, of Mounthorgan, Rathmore, is contesting four charges relating to incidents at Main Street, Killarney, in the early hours of January 2nd, 2006.

Mr O'Mahony, who was chosen as man of the match after this year's All-Ireland final against Mayo, has been charged with assaulting Damien Casey.

He is also charged with obstructing Garda Edmund Walsh. There are two further charges relating to threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour in breach of the peace, one at 1am and a second at 2.30am, also on January 2nd, at Main Street .

Solicitor for the accused, Pádraig O'Connell, has told the court the case will be fully contested.

Mr O'Connell said there will be a number of witnesses and the case will take some time. He also requested video viewing facilities for the hearing.

Judge James O'Connor adjourned the matter for mention to Castleisland District Court on October 26th next, when a date will be set for a full hearing.
