An elderly Co Donegal man received burns to 40 per cent of his body when the car in which he was a passenger was engulfed in flames following a collision, an inquest at Dublin City Coroner's Court heard yesterday.

Mr John Long (77), of Carrickanee, Inch Island, died at St James's Hospital, Dublin, on July 14th, 1994, 25 days after the collision at Carrant lieve, Fahan, Co Donegal.

Ms Geraldine McLoughlin, a young woman who was also a rear seat passenger in the car, died at the scene.

Having been told the driver of the other car was convicted at Letterkenny Circuit Court of dangerous driving, causing a death, the jury recorded a verdict of death as a result of dangerous driving.
