TWO BROTHERS appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court last night charged in connection with a shooting incident in which a six-year-old girl was injured.
Christopher Curtain (38), Salvia Court, Southill, Limerick, is charged with possession of a semi-automatic shotgun and 11 rounds of ammunition at Yeats Avenue, Southill, on May 31st.
His brother, Paul Curtain (27), Ballyedmund, Rearcross, Co Tipperary, is charged with aiding and abetting a person in possession of a firearm on the same date.
The court heard that neither man made any reply when they were formerly charged at Garda stations in Limerick yesterday.
Legal aid was granted to both defendants and solicitor John Herbert was assigned to represent both men.
Mr Herbert consented to the State’s application for the men to be remanded in custody until next Tuesday, and said he would be making an application for bail on that day.
Judge Tom O’Donnell remanded both of the accused in custody until June 10th next.
Meanwhile, two other people arrested in connection with the investigation into last weekend’s shooting were released without charge yesterday.
A man in his 20s, arrested earlier this week, was still being held for questioning last night at Bruff Garda station in Co Limerick.
The girl caught up in last weekend’s exchange of gunfire suffered a superficial injury to her leg.
