London - Britain yesterday quashed speculation that it was considering returning the disputed Parthenon Marbles to Greece, saying the classical statues would stay in the British Museum. Media reports had said that the Culture Secretary, Mr Chris Smith, was studying a proposal to open a branch of the British Museum in Athens to house the marbles, also known as the Elgin marbles.
