The Israeli army pulled out of Tulkarm today, ending a two-day incursion in the West Bank city, in which one soldier was killed and two wounded.

Eight Palestinians were wounded at the start of the Israeli incursion yesterday and an 11-year-old boy was hurt as tanks and armoured vehicles pulled out at midday today under cover of machinegun fire, witnesses said.

The Israeli army said troops had detained four Palestinians in Tulkarm and defused a bomb found in one house. Palestinian sources in the city said 25 people had been detained.

Israel has been sending troops in and out of what are officially Palestinian-ruled areas since declaring this month that its West Bank military offensive was over.
