The four-year-old boy who died after being struck by a car in Co Kerry yesterday has been named as Rio Singh Ranjaha Potiwan from Middlesbrough in England.

It is understood the child was hit by the car after he ran onto the road outside the house where he was staying at Dromin near Listowel.

He died later in Tralee General hospital.

Meanwhile, the Police Service of Northern Ireland are appealing for witnesses after a man was killed when his car left the road near Groomsport, Co Down yesterday evening.

On Saturday two men died when their cars crashed on the Naas by-pass in the early hours of the morning. They were named as Mr Nigel O'Neill (30), Newbridge, Co Kildare, and Mr Mark Berry (40), Arcadia Court, Skerries, Co Dublin.

On Friday, Ms Nora May Jennings (73), Irishtown, Co Mayo, was killed in a car crash at Ballindine, Co Mayo. Two other people were injured in the incident, which occurred at 12.40 p.m. on the N17.
