THE BODY of a missing pharmacy student was recovered from the Grand Canal Dock in Dublin at the weekend.
Members of the Garda underwater unit found the body of 21-year-old Alan Houston during a search of the water on Saturday morning. The third-year Trinity College student, originally from Letterkenny, Co Donegal, lived at the nearby Charlotte Quay Dock complex in Ringsend.
Gardaí began investigating Mr Houston's disappearance after friends raised the alarm when he failed to show up at university last week. They had last seen him at the junction of Pearse Street and Lombard Street in the early hours of Thursday following a night out.
Family and friends joined gardaí in their search for the missing student.
A Garda spokesman described the death as a tragic accident. "We are not treating this death as suspicious," he said.
