London - A report by the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) published in Britain yesterday has dismissed fears that living or working close to mobile-phone masts exposes people to high levels of radiation, writes Rachel Donnelly.

Concrete roofs absorbed most of the radiation emitted by mobile-phone masts on top of school buildings and pupils were exposed to higher levels of radiation from masts more than 300 yards from schools. The NRPB carried out 118 radiation level tests at 17 sites on and near schools and residential and working areas nearby and discovered radiation levels on average at 0.02 per cent, below national and international guidelines.

Friends of the Earth Scotland welcomed the results and the announcement that further research will be conducted.
