Beijing - The head of the International Olympic Committee delegation in Beijing to evaluate the city's suitability to host the 2008 Games said yesterday the inspection would be purely a sport and technical one, writes Miriam Donohoe.

Mr Hein Verbruggen said China's human rights record and other political considerations would be left to the individual members of the IOC.

The Vice-Mayor of Beijing, Mr Liu Jingmin, denied yesterday that the inspection team would be kept away from opponents of the bid.
