Evidence relating to the conditions of bail granted to a Dublin man facing charges of unauthorised taking of vehicles was destroyed in the Tallaght Garda station fire in which Sgt Andrew Callanan died, the High Court heard yesterday.

Det Sgt John McCarvill said records of signing on in relation to Daniel Brazil, Knockmore Park, Tallaght, were destroyed in the fire.

He told Mr Justice Kearns Brazil had gone on a crime spree during the early hours of July 1st in breach of a curfew order restricting him to his home between the hours of 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. Brazil had driven a stolen car around the Ashbourne and Navan in Co Meath in a high-speed chase which resulted in a Garda car being rammed.

Sgt McCarvill said that as a result of being arrested, Brazil's bail was revoked in the district court and he was opposing Brazil's appeal to the High Court against that decision.
