Wilmington - A day before her 20th birthday, a US college student and her former sweetheart were spared long prison terms yesterday for the death of their newborn son, whose body was found in a motel rubbish bin with multiple skull fractures.
Amy Grossberg was ordered imprisoned for 2 1/2 years, and Brian Peterson was sentenced to two years. Grossberg, whose defence strategy pitted her against Peterson, sobbed as she told the judge she was "extremely sorry" and blamed herself.
