Tennis: Victoria Azarenka progressed into the fourth round of the Australian Open, despite a late outburst which marred her win against Mona Barthel.

The third seed from Belarus eventually won 6-2 6-4 in one hour and 28 minutes, but her inability to put the German away prompted a furious tirade at a line judge.

Despite being booed on match point on Hisense Arena, Azarenka held her nerve to claim the match and a place in the last 16.

She said: "I think I have been playing pretty good but I was not brave enough to finish the match. I had to get a little pissed off."

Next up for Azarenka is Czech Iveta Benesova, who thrashed Russian qualifier Nina Bratchikova 6-1 6-3.

Top seed Caroline Wozniackicruised through after a straight sets win over Monica Niculescu.

Wozniacki was posed a few problems by the unconventional Romanian but she remained in charge to secure a 6-2 6-2 victory on Hisense Arena.

Niculescu, the 31st seed, entertained the crown with her style - hitting double-handed groundstrokes on both sides as well as mixing it up with the occasional sliced forehand and foray to the net.

Wozniacki, though, rattled through the first set in just over half-hour, while the 21-year-old only blotted her copybook when she was broken serving for the match.

The Dane responded by breaking straight back to secure place in the last 16 without dropping a set so far.

"There's not too much rhythm playing against Monica," Wozniacki said. "She slices the ball from both sides, she can play high and she can play aggressive. You need to be fast on your feet to win the points because she's so fast."

Wozniacki will face Jelena Jankovicin the fourth round after the Serbian saw off Christina McHale.

Jankovic, the No13 seed, was forced to work hard for the first set but she moved through the gears to claim a 6-2 6-0 victory over the American.

Jankovic has made the second week of the season-opening slam for only the third time in 10 trips to Australia, but leads Wozniacki 4-3 head-to-head.

Defending champion Kim Clijstersmaintained her charge through the field with a straight-sets victory over Daniela Hantuchova.

Clijsters, seeded down in 11th after an injury-ravaged 2011, was not at her best with her serve struggling on Hisense Arena. However, she was able to go on to seal a 6-3 6-2 victory - with Hantuchova guilty of wasting a number of chances.

Hantuchova did break the Belgian twice as she registered just 56 per cent of her first serves - but Clijsters responded to break 20th seed on five occasions.

"I wasn't playing my best tennis but I fought all the way," said Clijsters, who made 18 unforced errors. "I just tried to do my best out there."

Chinese star Li Na, the first Asian to win a grand slam title when she claimed the French Open in 2011, set up a repeat of last year's final in Melbourne against Clijsters when her third-round opponent Anabel Medina Garrigueshad to retire with an ankle injury.

In just the second point of the third game, the Spaniard fell awkwardly and immediately burst into tears. After lengthy treatment she attempted to continue but it quickly became apparent she could no longer carry on.

Agnieszka Radwanskamaintained her unbeaten record against Galina Voskoboevaas she reached the fourth round.

The Pole powered to a 6-2 6-2 victory in an hour and six minutes, with her serve proving to be a formidable weapon.

Radwanska held her serve in the first game and after Voskoboeva held her serve in the fourth game, the 22-year-old eighth seed unleashed flurry of slices to wipe out the last four games in a row to seal the set.

The Pole warded off all six break points against her and converted two out of three break chances to her advantage.

The higher ranked star carried her winning ways in the following set and pulled out victory in a similar manner as she won the final four games.

Radwanska will meet German 22nd seed Julia Goerges, who rallied to a 3-6 6-3 6-1 win over Italian Romina Oprandi.
