Tour de France: Norway's Kurt-Asle Arvesen of the CSC team won the 11th stage of the Tour de France, a 167.5-km ride from Lannemezan to Foix.

Martin Elmiger of the AG2r-La Mondiale team was second, with Italian Alessandro Ballan third for the Lampre team.

Australia's Cadel Evans of the Silence Lotto team retained the overall leader's yellow jersey.

The stage started without Spain's Moises Duenas Nevado, who was kicked out of the race by his Barloworld team earlier in the day after testing positive for the blood-boosting erythropoietin (EPO).

Police have since found banned substances in Nevado's hotel room, the Spanish rider's team manager said.

Claudio Corti said the substances were discovered when the room was searched by officers before the start of the 11th stage from Lannemezan to Foix. The 27-year-old was immediately withdrawn from the race by his team and was being questioned by police.

"It has emerged that some banned medicines that were absolutely not supplied or prescribed by the team doctor were found in Moises Duenas's room", Barloworld said on their website ( www.teambarloworld.com).

"I've asked the French police to fully investigate the case so that we can fully understand the seriousness of what Moises Duenas has done," Corti said in this statement.

"He seems to have secretly used banned substances, hiding everything from everybody else in the team."
